Painted Thoughts

Painted Thoughts
B pencil on 5" X 8" mixed media paper

There is a moment in painting where the blocked in shapes and colors, look less than what you imagined. Doubt seeps in and you wonder if it will all work out. Despite the doubt, you keep adding highlights and form. Somehow the painting turns a corner and all doubt falls away. What you imagine is realized. This is the feeling that I love most about painting.

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way–things I had no words for.” – Georgia O'Keeffe
