When drawing faces, I find it helpful to see the shapes that create connections.  I keep in mind the way that expressions are lines that give shape to a perceived reality.  

The following makes me think of the math behind topology.  A simple summary of topology is a study of shapes without measurement. Math that proves size and shape will not always matter if you can find the connections.  This kind of math allows greater transformation utilizing space from two and three dimensions to a theorized infinite dimensions.  For example, it has been used to unravel the enzymatic knots around DNA.  Furthering molecular biology and genetic research.

Now if only I can find a way to unravel the connections without the shapes...
